THE ORIGINAL 1983 YEARMIX: REBUILD, REVISED & EXTENDED

This mega mix is based on the original Grandmix that started an annual high-light mix in the Netherlands for decades. Master mixer Ben Liebrand was the inventor of this type of long mix. Remember: this was the time when reel-to-reel recorders were used for the loops and editing in combination with two turntables for the actual mix. Only a technically skilled DJ could make such a masterpiece. Ben Liebrand pulled it off and called this jewel 'Grandmix'.

Many DJs stated that this mix greatly influenced their musical taste and career. A true benchmark for all upcoming monster mixes! Ben Liebrand still makes these kinds of mixes to this day. Please enjoy and relive 1983 on this musical trip!

DISCLAIMER: this mix is not affiliated with Ben Liebrand, Liebrand Audio and so is the protected brand name 'Grandmix'. This is a fan-made mix with no commercial purpose whatsoever.

CERTIFIED 1981

In 1983 Dutch Mix Pioneer Ben Liebrand started his series of Grandmixes. They became an annual gem for more than a decade, released at the end of each year. Many have tried to copy his unique style but no one showed the same consistency the way Ben Liebrand did. Nowadays making a yearmix isn't that unique anymore cause modern music is much easier to mix than back in the day. To honour the original series of Grandmixes I created - in 2004 - the 1982 year mix (search for it, it's on the web) which was broadcasted by Ben Liebrand in his weekly radioshow called "In The Mix" . Now, with Ableton as my weapon of choice and the web for research (Discogs, Youtube) I recreated also a 1980 and 1981 yearmix, more than 25 years after date. Enjoy it, like and share it if you can. Thanks in advance.

JAARMIX 1982

This 1982 Yearmix is the first of the 3 yearmixes I created. This one was broadcasted on radio Veronica in a show hosted by 'mister Grandmix' himself: Ben Liebrand. More info about this you can find here. Unfortunately my mix was removed from Soundcloud but it's uploaded by several others. Below you can find such a upload.

THE ROLAND TR-808 LEGACY MEGAMIX

A lot of artists derive their signature sound from a rhythm box made by Japanese engineers from the Roland corporation. I've made a compilation of artists/bands/producers who pioneered with this drum machine.
Almost 32 years after it's introduction...this TR808 is still popular and wanted.
Arthur Baker - successful producer/artist/ and 808 pioneer - is even making a documentary of this magic box.

Feel free to mail me to suggest tracks that are - in your opinion - missing. Thanks!

808 TREATMENT REMIXES

My love for the Roland TR-808 is profound. Even though it has been over used in the last decade I still like the fat bass with it's endless decay, the crystal clear sounds of the hi-hats and the impossible to hide-in-the-mix cowbell. ("we need more cowbell!")

Therefore I present to you tracks that could have sound better if they only had used the 808!
